Handymen App

The aim of this UI project was to create an app to help users find handymen quick and easy and make the right choice by reading reviews, recommendations and seeing the ratings. The app goes both ways- also handymen can manage their appointments, post their work and make themselves known.

Roles played

I created this UI project alone and I used as inspiration the user experience of the people around me, including mine. I had only 5 days to complete the task and that's why I didn't have the time to do the UX part properly. However, I found time to do the user testing, got some new insights, implemented them in the interface, and finished the project on time

Activities performed

  • Research

  • User flow

  • Sketches

  • Wireframes

  • Prototyping

  • User testing

Style Guide

The style guide went through numerous adjustments as the I was building the interfaces. At first I chose as primary colors a different shades of blue, yellow and orange, but then I narrowed down to the once you can see in the image below. I built the secondary color palette as I was doing changes on the primary ones. Also in this part of the project I created the text styles (I used the fonts Roboto-medium and regular and Recursive Linear Bold), I chose the icons and I designed the main and secondary buttons.

The biggest challenge was to create the like button, and by doing this I got more comfortable with the smart animate option from Figma and also I learnt some new tricks.

Building the interface

After creating a brief user flow and sketching the main pages I created the frames you can see below. I was inspired by other app and also other UX/UI Designers from Pinterest and Dribble, and I mixed all the ideas with the Insights I got from the research and user flow.

User testing

In this part I had a short interaction with two of the potential users, in which I explained them the purpose of the app and asked them to imagine the are using the app. I helped them work with the prototype, followed their moves, and listened to their likes and complaints. The one and only complaint I received was that I didn't give any option to the users to recommend  a handyman to other friend and family who need one and don't have an account. From their experience, they find it very unpleasant to install an app and make an account for something they barely need.

As a solution, I added the option to  recommend to a friend also via WhatsApp and SMS.

Flows and Prototype

I created two flows to show how the app works and you can see them in the videos below or try the prototype yourself.

Flow 1

In this flow you can see the log in page, and the screens for the customers.

Flow 2

In this flow you can see the transition from the customer account to the handyman interface.
